Broken Light Bulb

Introduction

Now we are dealing with mindsets that are being fed with numbers, statistics and information to make us think and form decisions regarding the homeless or the at-risk population a certain way. The Supreme Court has ruled that it is Not cruel nor unusual punishment to fine, ticket, or jail a homeless person even if there are no shelter beds. This ruling has done a great deal of harm to the fight for stability.

A shelter bed is not a shelter bed; it is designated for a male, an addict, a female, or a family, so there are many beds that are empty but not available.

The President’s Mandate carries a serious hidden threat, along with some hope of getting help to the streets for the homeless.

In America, since the great Pandemic of 2020 and the Biden era, the economy has brought a wicked downturn in this nation, the homeless numbers are running just north of 770,000.

The push, the criminalization, and the Cicero led ideas are to just get them off the streets and remove the encampments. Okay, say I agree with that, where are you going to place them? They are humans in need of humane treatment, care and intervention. Where are they going if you do that? It is like the next best crime and punishment novel, a page turner, demands driving the narrative without answers to finish the next page.

An Opening Word

        Hosea 12: 4 to 6

When Jacob wrestled with the angel and won, he cried and asked for a blessing. Kater, God met him at Bethal and spoke with him there. It was the Lord God All Powerful; the Lord is His great name. You must return to your God, love Him, do what is just and always trust Him as your God.

        Psalm 25: 5 and 6

Guide m in Your truth, and teach me my God, my Savior, I trust you all day long. Lord, remember Your mercy and love  that You have shown since long ago

Data for this Discussion

This is an introduction blog for the 10-part series on AI Data collected regarding numbers, and data that has been collected about the homeless, but more than that, regarding the twisted, out-of-order, wrong-hearted mindsets toward the homeless. What I want us to come to understand is this, a number is not a number.

The first piece of data I will share I want you to remember all through this is this: 775,000 homeless people in the United States of America. That is the number of those that were counted, so we can safely increase that number by about 12%, how has this happened in this nation?

We will be looking at mental health, the elderly, food and the lack of it, emergency rooms, jails, NIMBY, gentrification, and how policymakers and the government are making decisions that are inhumane and yet fully accepted.

The numbers we will be seeing are staggering. 197,00 shelter beds short nightly. 7.1 million housing units are short right now, with no way to build ourselves out of this problem. The average homeless person is now around age 50, which is approaching the elderly. Which does not even touch the twisted numbers around mental health, and addictions, where the numbers range from 16% to 50%, so there is much to discuss. So much to discuss and no one wants to to talk anymore…

What are Mindsets

So, let’s start with some definitions of Mindsets:

>A deeply held set of attitudes, beliefs, and a frame of reference that shapes how a person perceives themselves and the world

>Your mindset is a set of beliefs that shape how you make sense of the world and yourself

>a person’s way of thinking and their opinions

So, if you hear for an extended period of time, say over a period of years, that this group of people are lazy, bums, addicts, useless, and shiftless, what will your mindset develop into regarding that group of people?

So, if you hear that this group of people over the same time frame are always in the emergency room, always in trouble with the law, don’t have a job, live outside in large tent groups, and can’t interact with society, what will be your mindset?

It is after all our thoughts that form our world, and our world regarding homelessness, is misconstrued because of the information that we have been force-fed over the past 15 to 20 years. It is making us think in a given and pre-ordained way, and it is unhealthy

What they do not tell you is this: they are shaping and deleting data and information and facts so that you hear and receive only what the government and social media want you to receive, so that your mindset is formed, but it is not your own. Yes, mindsets can be formed that we did not form on our own and that is what is impacting the homeless crisis today, wrong, negative, wrapped mindsets. Why do you think the wickedness of Socialism is accepted? It is all about forming favorable mindsets

Why are Mindsets Handcuffs

Mindsets are handcuffs because of this truth. You are a sum total of what you think, because what you think is the precursor to what you speak. What you speak, according to the bible, is what forms the very world that you will live in, either good or not so good. Words have been ignored for too long as a powerful creative weapon; by creative, I do not mean for good; they can create hell on earth.

There are many mindsets formed against the homeless, against their recovery, against their future, and against receiving help that are leading to bad outcomes. The simplest and main one is along this line, it is a waste of money, time and effort, they cannot sustain anything beyond their current useless life.

If you are a person given to compassion and one who has a heart to help, but when you go to reach out, there are limits placed on your endeavors, that is a handcuff of sorts. If you are told you can and cannot do this or that because of rules and laws, your compassion is hindered.

Thoughts form how we behave, and those behaviors are how we live our daily lives. If this narrative of the day forms our thoughts, and they are tilted against a given group of people, for any reason, and we conform to that, we are handcuffed.

It is as simple as hearing, don’t give a homeless person any money, it will be wasted on drugs, a thought in someone else’s mind, but you heard the thought, and immediately your wallet went away instead of giving that mom and child money.

Hainv no shelters is the prevailing mindset in your area, and you are against that. But you have heard repeatedly about crime, property values, unacceptable sort of people, and slowly you have decided to vote against that much-needed shelter without knowing the sure truth. Mindsets are handcuffs that we have failed to understand.

How do they Ensnare Humans to the Streets

Trapped on the streets has become an avalanche of sorts. The numbers and variety of homeless have grown, the denial of the problem as well, which has opened the door for false narratives and false news, and information. The latest we will read about in a later blog, the demand from our President for mandatory civil commitment for those on the streets that may or may not be able to be helped in other situations.

If you have been made out to be wicked, bad, and a criminal, how do you seek help, go for resources, or ask a person for $1.00 to get some water so that you do not get sick from dehydration in 100-degree heat? We have a tendency to pre-judge another who may not look, act, behave, smell, think, or speak like us and on that basis deny them help, Our mindset enforced on them.

If you are so afraid that hunger and thirst is easier for you than speaking to a person or going for help, then you have been ensnared to the streets and you are trapped, and hope is fading from you quickly.

It is called the blame game, the government system is the homeless person that caused the problem, and the person says it is the government. But what if the truth were this: a handcuff is a pair of shackles joined in the middle. One on the government, the blame game, and the other on the person, inability to get real help.

When did the Trend of Mass Homelessness Start

We need to look back into the 1980s to see the visible overflow of homelessness. The situation had been around long before that, but it was better handled, and family and churches were actively involved in helping those who were struggling and getting them back into a home or apartment.

During the 1960s, several different social revolutions occurred in this nation, and the overarching impact resulting in an increasing homeless population. The school removed prayer, abortion increased, drug addiction increased, churches lost their place of importance in the communities, and the number of homeless people started growing.

The increased pressure for two incomes, the parents not present in the home, the cost of living outpacing income, missing moral inhibition, and the government trying to parent the nation instead of being the limited body of governance it was designed to be. Economic downturns, housing crises, stock crashes, wounded veterans, and the list could continue, but this is why the numbers have skyrocketed.

Let’s be truthful for once, the trend of homelessness is not accidental; it could have been caught, dealt with, or curbed before it exploded, but by design, it was ignored. Homelessness and its related programs, employment opportunities to manage, oversee, institute policies that do not work, make too much money for too many people, to risk ending homelessness. Even if we cut the number of homeless by 75,000 suddenly, the disruption to the Homeless Industrial Complex would be catastrophic. Jobs would be lost, money dried up, and programs shifted out, this is why solutions are not favorable. Tough truth.

Overview of Our Discussions to Follow

So, the question becomes this: how do wrong mindsets impact food insecurity, and how do they frame housing shortages for the extremely poor? How do those mindsets that are formed by false narratives and fake news help us decide who does and does not deserve help?

Why do mindsets and their entrenched nature combine with NIMBY and gentrification to exacerbate the already tight housing market that pushes the elderly onto the streets? The elderly are the fastest-growing group of homeless currently out there.

Mentally ill, addicted, we make assumptions about this group of people and who is and is not, and if they do or not deserve help, food, shelter, and care, and yet we know so little about root causes. In these blogs, we are going to look at some heart shaking numbers that ought to make you unhappy and mad at the government for allowing this to continue, but we still blame the homeless. It will be an interesting journey as we go through the set of interconnected blogs. I hope you will join us, with an open mind.

Conclusion

The bible says, as one thinks in their heart, so is their life, not an exact quote, but the idea is there. If you think about it, you will embody it

Mindset is a fixed way of thinking about a given thing, whether of your making or if it is fed to you by outside sources, good or evil

Mindsets are key in breaking or enslaving one to any given lifestyle, including the homeless, to repetitive cycles of patterns of attempts and failures of getting off the streets

Homelessness has always been around. But mass homelessness started in the 60s and slowly built up through economic downturns, family breakups, job loss, and other such issues and today it is a crisis.

On this single, specific subject, who and what is forming your thinking patterns, your mindset, is it compassion or the information that you read in the news, the internet? The truth is people thrive on fake news, and mindsets are built on that news, so learn to think for yourself; it is safer.
